Month of Stay: September 2017
Length of Stay: 1 night
Type of Room: Strawberry Road Penthouse
Cost: $330AUD.
Rydges Parramatta is an upmarket hotel located on the fringe of Parramatta which is known to most as Sydney’s second CBD. The immediate area is a mix of residential and commercial but come the weekend you’ll hear loud music from the nearby hotels.
The room was the Strawberry Road Penthouse which was a little cheaper than the Executive Penthouse and included a roomy round spa bath.
Both the room and the bathroom were quite well sized with large windows overlooking the Parramatta CBD in the distance.
As a bonus our hosts generously provided a bottle of Champagne and a cheese plate. Yummy.
The Bedroom
The main suite is very spacious with all the amenities you’d expect in a 4 star hotel. The king size bed was reasonably comfortable.
The minibar was well stocked and there was plenty of storage space for guests staying longer than one night.
The Bathroom
The real highlight of the suite was the bathroom which was huge. The shower featured both a handheld shower spray and a rain water shower head from the ceiling. The shower is also roomy enough for 2 people to be comfortable if that’s your thing.
In the corner by the large window is the round spa bath. It can be a little awkward getting in and out as it’s up a couple of steps rather than something you can just climb into and the tiles were a little slippery.
Breakfast
The buffet breakfast serves up everything from toast and cereal to bacon, eggs and hash browns. It’s a fairly standard continental breakfast. The food was a little bland to be honest but it was complimentary thanks to the host, so who is to complain.
Final Word
Overall the hotel is fancy with most of the mod-cons people expect these days. The room was expensive but it was a Friday night, during the week is a fair bit cheaper.
I didn’t use any of the other facilities such as the gym or pool but that just wasn’t in the scope of the visit.
I’d recommend a stay here. Parking is free, it’s easy enough to get around and there’s lots of great pubs and restaurants as well as shopping in Parramatta. Beats the overpriced Sydney CBD hotels.
