Located within the Kur-ring-gai National Park on Sydney’s northern fringe is Bobbin Head, a largely recreational area with rocky tree covered sandstone mountains surrounding Cowan Creek in the valley below.
There is a marina with many recreational boats as well as cafe and restaurant and a lot of open ground for picnics, barbeques and the like.
On the weekends the area is a hive of activity with many people coming for the above activities or to bushwalk on the numerous tracks located in the area. The spot is also busy on many days with bike riders traveling from Hornsby to Turramurra via this route.
Access to the park costs $12 and the National Parks staff at the entry points will help you out with any questions you have. There’s also a visitors center on the northern end of Bobbin Head Road. You can get to Bobbin Head Road from Turramurra off the Pacific Highway or off the Pacific Highway at Mount Colah. There’s a map down the bottom.
Here’s some of the photos I took this weekend while I went for a walk along the Mangrove Boardwalk which leads to stone stairs that lead up to the bush where you get a great outlook over the valley below. I didn’t make it all the way up cause I am not so great on my feet in the bush or on stairs, especially ones carved into the sandstone.
